10 July 2008, LONDON: SmithBayes, a leading a pioneer in strategic planning and decision-making software, today announced that it has been voted a finalist at the CNET Networks UK Business Technology Awards. SmithBayes has been shortlisted within the category for Business Application of the Year.

The launch of SmithBayes 2.0 in January 2008 signalled a clear development of the software application, and was a major extension of the core technology utilised by SmithBayes 1.0 which was launched in 2006. SmithBayes 2.1 was launched in May this year featuring an iconic new black user interface. This version has been completely rearchitected into Microsoft's .NET 3.0 Framework and uses Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) to enhance the visualisation experience. SmithBayes is one of the first business applications to make use of Microsoft's latest set of technology and is well positioned to capitalise on the technology as it evolves further.

SmithBayes CEO, Simon Williams, says "We are delighted to be voted as a finalist for this award. It is a clear indication that SmithBayes offers an innovative and compelling proposition that is uniquely aligned to the need to make faster, better decisions in the current market climate of increased flux and inherent uncertainty. I'm delighted for the team that their belief in building a software application that is both robust and beautiful has been recognised."

SmithBayes' decision-making software platform, derived from the technology employed in Formula 1 racing by Team McLaren Mercedes, enables corporate leaders to understand the options available to them when making crucial strategic decisions. The technology enables SmithBayes' customers to understand the risk, return and timing tradeoffs to identify optimal corporate strategies that will generate business success. SmithBayes' graphical software can track the market variables that affect the direction an organisation should take, and it helps executive decision-makers to recalibrate their strategy over time as real events unfold and market variables fluctuate. SmithBayes promotes 'strategic agility' as an economic force helping to generate business growth for companies around the world.

Tony Hallett, Editorial Director, Technology and Business, for CNET Networks UK, and Chair of the Judging Council, said; "Despite the current economic climate, it is clear that business technology in the UK continues to go from strength to strength. The sheer quantity and quality of entries received highlights the outstanding talent in the industry and we're proud to recognise some of the most exciting developments of the last year."
