SmithBayes launches version 2 of groundbreaking decision-making software

SmithBayes 2.0 set to transform real-time strategic decision-making for global organisations

29 January 2008, LONDON: SmithBayes, a leading UK software company whose pioneering technology has improved the agility with which organisations can make decisions and respond to change, has today launched Version 2 of its groundbreaking business solution.

The launch of SmithBayes 2.0 signals a clear development of the software application, and is a major extension of the core technology utilised by SmithBayes 1.0 which was launched in 2006.

SmithBayes' decision-making software platform, derived from the technology employed in Formula 1 racing by Team McLaren Mercedes, enables corporate leaders to understand the options available to them when making crucial strategic decisions. The technology enables SmithBayes' customers to understand the risk, return and timing tradeoffs to identify optimal corporate strategies that will generate business success.

SmithBayes' graphical software can track the market variables that affect the direction an organisation should take, and it helps executive decision-makers to recalibrate their strategy over time as real events unfold and market variables fluctuate. SmithBayes promotes 'strategic agility' as an economic force helping to generate business growth for companies around the world.

SmithBayes 2.0 has been completely rearchitected to leverage the capabilities of Microsoft's .NET 3.0 Framework and uses Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) to provide a world class user experience visualising sophisticated business information. SmithBayes is one of the first business applications to make use of Microsoft's latest set of technology and is well positioned to capitalise on the technology as it evolves further.

The strategic planning software now boasts standardised, smart 'building blocks' that enable market variables to be shared unilaterally across business practices ensuring that decision makers are always up-to-date with the latest economic and market insights. The new software also has an advanced 'drag-and-drop' user interface that allows executives to quickly create a multitude of strategy options with integrated business and financial planning.

The software upgrade identifies 'agile' decision-making as the principal factor in driving business forward, and can help organisations respond to shifting market variables, minimise the uncertainty of making important strategic decisions and react quickly to exploit new opportunities.

The software's potential corporate uses are wide ranging as organisations can use it to measure the risks and rewards of moving into new markets, bringing out new products, or making capital investments. SmithBayes 2.0 has the unique capability to highlight 'influence maps' that can be tracked over time to identify the best strategic route. These maps show the important variables such as possible new technologies and changes in government regulations that can have a significant impact on an organisation's business.

Commenting upon the impact of 'agility' across the business landscape, Alys Woodward, Program Manager for European BI and Analytics at analyst firm IDC said: "Now more than ever companies need to get as close as possible to predicting the future, by planning for widely-varying scenarios and incorporating external assumptions into their strategic plans. SmithBayes' technology allows them to capture valuable information and adapt it in the event of changes in the business, legislative and political landscape."

"Organisational agility is of paramount importance in today's rapidly changing global economy. Businesses need to respond quickly and efficiently to shifting technology, increased competition and market conditions making agility the key competitive advantage," said SmithBayes CEO Simon Williams.

"SmithBayes 2.0 significantly reduces the decision-making cycle time and this new software is a major step in giving back to corporate leaders the luxury of time to execute strategic plans with better insight, more precision and greater speed," he added.
