Our client needed to evaluate a range of R&D options for developing a new family of engines when facing major technological and market uncertainty.

The engineering group faced a complex R&D path as new technologies were emerging but as yet unproven and the business models were shifting from a product model to service model. This presented a range of potential paths that could be followed – but using existing tools the analysis would take 6 months plus.

By making it easy to mix the business elements in new ways SmithBayes enabled our client to model many more scenarios that led to different, and counter-intuitive, insights, allowing development options to be kept open for longer and avoid being locked in to a specific technology. And this was achieved in less than 2 months.
